For me it is between 3:30 am and 5:00 am when most are asleep. I can hear myself think and creativity is at its peak. Invigorated with clarity and purpose, a rested and rejuvenated mind is ready to launch into the deep and reap a harvest of great ideas and inspiration. This simple activity has resulted in many a best-seller and a successful enterprise, for many.

Getting Adequate Sleep Boosts Productivity

I am told by a study from John Hopkins University that most successful people get at least seven hours sleep at night.  The result is a positive attitude and high energy output during the day. Trying to stay up late for the sake of getting more done is counter-productive. It only works for a while and subsequently results in burn-out, mood swings, and anxiety.

However, your productive time may be completely different for various reasons. For you, it may be in the morning, evening or just before bedtime. Whenever it is, use it to produce your creative best. Otherwise, enduring the stress of forcing yourself to be productive when the juices aren’t flowing, will end in frustration.  It is a remedy for failure before you even begin.

Even though this article is geared more so towards creative people, it also applies to the traditional work environment.  Some employers don’t measure productivity by the number of hours clocked in on the job, they are results-oriented.

Google is known for its very casual approach in its work environment as it provides employees with many unbelievable perks and benefits.  As a result, Google’s productivity is phenomenal and I need not say more, but that there’s a valuable lesson here.  This is the new metric for measuring overall productivity and success. creative project

Don’t settle for less than your optimum.  Apply the above tips and get the most out of your life by working smart, not hard.

Discover your best time of the day to do your best work. Your sweet spot to be productive and maximize your creativity.  Work less but do more.

  1. Hi David,
As you mention, making sure we get enough sleep, and also a nutritious diet and moderate exercise can make us healthy, well rested and boost creativity. I fully agree we all have different biological clocks and some people are more productive or alert in the morning while others in the evening. For instance, I tend to work on the topics where I need more energy or concentration in the morning, while I use the afternoon and evening for those tasks less strenuous. Thanks for sharing.

    1. That makes sense David. Mental stuff in the morning when the mind is fresh and the evening for other tasks. Thank you for sharing this strategy.

      David
