Happiness is Contagious
Have you ever noticed that happy people are almost always greeted with a smile whenever they grace others with their presence?  It is because we all like to be around happy people. Happiness is contagious and has no race or language barrier. Most of us can’t watch someone laugh freely and not respond with laughter too – even when we don’t know what we are laughing at.

Watch the video below to see an example of how happiness, or its by-product laughter, is contagious.

People who are free and easy to get along with, carry energy that most aspire to have.  It’s a quality that evidently adds value to one’s personality. In the midst of a stressful day or in calamity, the entrance a happy spirit is generally received with ‘open arms.’  We may even say that they are bringing comfort to our situation.  This they do sometimes, due to another quality they tend to possess, positivity.

How to be happy and positive? The reason happy people seem to be in good spirits is because the source of their happiness is joy.

Joy is a deep-rooted emotion that one who is at peace within possesses.  It doesn’t matter if there is tragedy, success or turmoil.  Happy people are aware that they are not in control of the external, but their internal reaction can be controlled.

It comes from deeply held convictions as a result of spiritual beliefs and/or a firm understanding of their function and purpose for living and emotional well-being.

  • They love caring for and serving others
  • They are grateful
  • They are contented
  • They delight in other people’s accomplishments
  • Their joy is generally generated by their high ideologies and high personal value system
  • They love themselves
  • Their happiness is not determined by what others do
  • They are not easily intimidated

  1. Such a great article. The importance of happiness is so important to our overall well being. If you feel happy, then your body reacts to it. Same as with feeling sad.
Laughter is known to boost one’s well being, releasing certain “feel good” endorphines
that our bodies crave. You’re right-Don’t worry -be happy!!

  2. I have had a rough year and found it hard to be happy throughout the turbulence. Times are getting better and I have been so much more happy since I ended a relationship. When you mentioned the positive energy of happy people, it is true that the people you keep around effects your overall well being.

    1. Hey Max,
Yes, you are right. It is hard but we must persevere. Let’s continue to pursue and nurture joy, from which happiness springs. All the best to you.

  3. Don’t worry, be happy 🙂

This is a nice reminder. I’ve been making it a habit nowadays to reduce my interaction with the ‘unhappy’ kind and to not ‘expect things’. I think that this has helped me be ‘happy’ somewhat, but of course, I’m not perfect – I forget the ‘habit’ I’m trying to develop.

When people ask me about my job or other things which I’m not totally happy about, I sometimes answer with ‘I’m not unhappy’. What do you think of this?

    Gluck with everything

    1. Thanks Marco.

      1. The ultimate goal is for us to have a positive impact on those who are of the ‘unhappy’ kind.

      2. Concerning being asked about your job etc. That’s a positive attitude and response to have in my opinion. Not everyone will care about you saying, you are “unhappy.” You can discuss your ‘unhappiness’ with your boss, counselor or someone you trust.

As we all learn to operate from a place of joy, it will become harder for stuff to easily and negatively affect us.

      Let this be our goal.
